Strictly confidential
Mutual Non-Disclosure, Anti-Spoiler & Dance Floor Integrity Agreement
In respect of one exceptionally important wedding reception and all related celebratory proceedings
THIS AGREEMENT is entered into by the undersigned guest (the “Receiving Party”) for the benefit of the happy couple, the wedding party, the families, the master of ceremonies, the DJ, and every person currently pretending not to know what happens next (collectively, the “Disclosing Parties”).
WHEREAS the Receiving Party has been granted access to a carefully orchestrated celebration containing confidential joy, proprietary anecdotes, commercially sensitive dance moves, unreleased speeches, and dessert information of material importance;
NOW THEREFORE, in consideration of dinner, dancing, excellent company, and other good and valuable consideration (the receipt and sufficiency of which are hereby enthusiastically acknowledged), the parties agree as follows:
1.Interpretation and Definitions
In this Agreement, capitalized expressions shall carry their ordinary legal meaning, their extraordinary wedding meaning, and any additional meaning assigned by a reasonably enthusiastic master of ceremonies operating under dance-floor conditions.
The parties agree that interpretive uncertainty shall be resolved in favour of preserving the surprise, maintaining the vibe, and avoiding any sentence beginning with the phrase ‘I probably should not be telling you this, but.’
- 1.1
“Confidential Information” means every speech, entrance, outfit, playlist transition, seating-chart revelation, dessert-related development, and whispered item of family lore encountered before, during, or suspiciously close to the Reception.
- 1.2
“Approved Disclosure” means a statement consisting solely of ‘you had to be there,’ accompanied, where appropriate, by a knowing but non-informative smile.
- 1.3
“Reception” includes all official festivities and any unofficial continuation occurring in a lobby, elevator, shuttle bus, hotel corridor, late-night restaurant, or group chat.
2.Purpose and Sacred Vibes
The Receiving Party acknowledges that the Disclosing Parties have invested considerable time, emotion, stationery, and spreadsheet labour in arranging a sequence of events intended to appear effortless.
The purpose of this Agreement is to protect that effort from premature explanation, accidental spoilers, unsolicited live commentary, and the devastating phrase ‘oh, I heard about this part.’
- 2.1
The Receiving Party shall treat the schedule as need-to-know information, even when the Receiving Party very much wants to know when dinner is.
- 2.2
No person shall reverse-engineer a surprise by examining vendor arrivals, microphone placement, suspicious curtains, or the MC’s increasingly specific facial expressions.
- 2.3
All vibes shall be presumed sacred until the final song, subject only to reasonable hydration breaks.
3.Non-Disclosure of Speeches
Draft jokes, emotional anecdotes, deliberate pauses, accidental pauses, and stories that have been shortened at the urgent request of multiple family members are strictly confidential.
- 3.1
The Receiving Party shall not disclose punchlines before delivery, including through predictive laughter, meaningful eye contact, or mouthing the final word along with the speaker.
- 3.2
Any story beginning in university, at a cottage, or with the words ‘we had this one roommate’ shall receive the highest available classification.
- 3.3
Tears observed during a speech may be attributed to allergies without further investigation.
4.Dance Floor Intelligence
The parties recognize that dance-floor participation is a complex operational matter involving timing, confidence, footwear, and the sudden appearance of songs nobody admits to knowing all the words to.
- 4.1
No signature move, improvised dip, enthusiastic point, or technically questionable moonwalk shall be recorded in written minutes.
- 4.2
The Receiving Party shall not announce a dance battle unless both alleged competitors have independently confirmed that a dance battle is occurring.
- 4.3
What happens during a circle formation remains within the circle formation, except for moves good enough to enter family legend.
5.Cake, Dessert and Related Assets
For certainty, all cakes, cupcakes, pastries, dessert tables, late-night snacks, emergency purse snacks, and decorative items mistaken for snacks are deemed Material Confectionery Assets.
- 5.1
The location, flavour, internal structure, and cutting time of the cake shall not be disclosed before the cake has made its official appearance.
- 5.2
A person who obtains two desserts shall owe no explanation where the first dessert was small, fruit-adjacent, or selected for research purposes.
- 5.3
The Receiving Party shall promptly report any credible rumour of late-night pizza to the nearest table.
6.Bouquet and Floral Securities
Flowers may be ornamental, symbolic, airborne, unexpectedly heavy, or all of the foregoing. Their movement may create temporary duties of attention and evasive action.
- 6.1
No party shall disclose the intended bouquet trajectory, whether derived from rehearsal, geometry, insider information, or a suspiciously open patch of floor.
- 6.2
Catching a bouquet creates no contractual obligation, timeline, public statement, or duty to answer follow-up questions from relatives.
- 6.3
Boutonnieres shall be considered properly oriented if nobody wishes to fix them for a fourth time.
7.Photographic Confidentiality
The parties acknowledge the existence of professional photographers, amateur photographers, accidental photographers, and people who hold a phone vertically while insisting they are taking video.
- 7.1
No unflattering frame shall be treated as evidence where a more flattering frame was taken within three seconds.
- 7.2
The Receiving Party shall permit the reasonable application of the phrase ‘one more’ notwithstanding reliable evidence that more than one additional photograph will occur.
- 7.3
Images of the couple shall not be posted before the couple has had a fair opportunity to post, approve, ignore, or become charmingly overwhelmed by them.
8.Seating Chart Protocol
The seating chart represents the product of diplomacy, logistics, family history, typography, and at least one late-night decision that cannot now be revisited.
- 8.1
The Receiving Party shall occupy the assigned seat with the confidence of a person who understands that every alternative was considered.
- 8.2
Table numbers do not constitute rankings, seedings, tiers, power indexes, or predictions of dance-floor performance.
- 8.3
A place card may be moved only to prevent an immediate beverage incident or to improve its appearance in a photograph by no more than two centimetres.
9.Dinner Conversation Covenants
Conversation shall be lively, generous, and calibrated to the fact that several generations may be within hearing distance even when they appear focused on bread service.
- 9.1
Permitted topics include travel, how lovely everything looks, the surprising accuracy of the weather forecast, and whether the bread is warm.
- 9.2
Questions concerning babies, housing prices, ex-partners, dietary discipline, or when someone will be next are subject to an indefinite conversational embargo.
- 9.3
A story may be retold if the new audience exceeds the previous audience by at least two persons and the storyteller reduces its length by ten percent.
10.Open Bar Due Diligence
The words ‘open bar’ describe a service arrangement and not a waiver of judgment, balance, hydration, jacket custody, or the ability to locate one’s room key.
- 10.1
Every second beverage may, at the Receiving Party’s discretion, be water, sparkling water, or water described in a sufficiently celebratory tone.
- 10.2
No person shall pressure another to consume anything, finish anything, or explain why they are not consuming anything.
- 10.3
A drink left unattended long enough to inspire doubt shall be replaced, not debated.
11.Music, Lyrics and Performance Rights
The playlist may contain masterpieces, guilty pleasures, songs requested by someone’s aunt, and one track whose opening notes cause an immediate migration toward the dance floor.
- 11.1
Singing accuracy is expressly waived after 9:30 p.m., provided enthusiasm remains in good standing.
- 11.2
The Receiving Party may request a song once. Repeatedly asking whether the DJ has received the request shall not accelerate performance.
- 11.3
Air instruments are licensed royalty-free for the duration of the Reception, subject to reasonable spatial awareness.
12.Wardrobe and Footwear Privilege
Wedding attire is protected from criticism, retrospective weather analysis, and commentary beginning with ‘I almost wore.’
- 12.1
Compliments shall be specific, sincere, and freely assignable among shoes, suits, dresses, accessories, hair, and the general concept of looking fantastic.
- 12.2
The removal of formal footwear shall not be interpreted as surrender, but as a strategic transition to advanced celebration mode.
- 12.3
Any stain successfully concealed for more than twenty minutes is deemed not to have occurred.
13.Family Lore and Legacy Information
Certain family stories have been repeated so often that their factual foundations are now inseparable from dramatic timing, regional accents, and improvements introduced by prior narrators.
- 13.1
The Receiving Party shall not fact-check a beloved story during its ceremonial telling.
- 13.2
Contradictory versions may coexist peacefully and shall not trigger discovery, cross-examination, or the production of old emails at the dinner table.
- 13.3
Childhood nicknames disclosed at the Reception expire at midnight unless independently renewed by the nickname holder.
14.Group Chat Containment
Digital communications are capable of moving faster than context and surviving longer than anyone intended.
- 14.1
No confidential detail shall be transmitted to a group chat whose membership the sender cannot list from memory.
- 14.2
Screenshots of screenshots shall be treated as aggravated disclosure and as a signal that everybody needs to put their phone down for a moment.
- 14.3
Voice notes exceeding two minutes require an executive summary and a clear indication of whether headphones are advisable.
15.Surprise Preservation Measures
A surprise remains a surprise only while the relevant person does not know, strongly suspect, or receive six messages asking whether they are surprised yet.
- 15.1
The Receiving Party shall maintain a neutral face near hidden performers, unusual equipment, secret cakes, costume changes, and relatives who have been told to wait around the corner.
- 15.2
No person shall point toward the location from which a surprise is expected to emerge.
- 15.3
If directly questioned, the phrase ‘I have no idea, but this is exciting’ shall constitute a complete and truthful response for purposes of this Agreement.
16.Weather Representations
Weather is an independent contractor over whom no party exercises control, despite extensive checking of multiple apps and the strong opinions of at least one relative.
- 16.1
Sun is delightful, rain is romantic, wind is cinematic, and any other conditions shall be described as memorable.
- 16.2
A forecast shall not be refreshed more than once every seven minutes unless a ceremony chair has become airborne.
- 16.3
Umbrellas may be shared without creating a joint venture.
17.MC Authority and Emergency Powers
The MC has been entrusted with a microphone and therefore enjoys narrowly tailored authority to pronounce names, introduce speakers, clarify logistics, and make deeply confident statements based on incomplete information.
- 17.1
The Receiving Party shall respond to reasonable applause cues promptly and with commercially reasonable enthusiasm.
- 17.2
A joke that does not land shall be deemed an audio issue and removed from the official record.
- 17.3
Where the MC says ‘we are running perfectly on time,’ the statement shall be interpreted aspirationally rather than chronologically.
18.Force Majeure and Tiny Emergencies
Neither party shall be liable for delays or deviations caused by weather, traffic, missing cufflinks, stubborn zippers, emotional grandparents, delayed shuttles, escaped centrepieces, or a flower child exercising independent judgment.
- 18.1
A tiny emergency becomes an anecdote immediately upon resolution.
- 18.2
The nearest calm person may assume temporary jurisdiction and say ‘we’ve got this’ whether or not supporting documentation exists.
- 18.3
No schedule variance under twenty minutes shall be perceptible to any guest who has been supplied with a beverage and pleasant conversation.
19.Term, Survival and Last Dance
This Agreement commences upon viewing and continues until the last dance, the final shuttle, or the point at which the MC is no longer holding a microphone, whichever occurs latest.
- 19.1
Obligations concerning kindness, discretion, and flattering photo selection survive indefinitely.
- 19.2
Obligations concerning surprise details expire once the surprise is obvious to the person being surprised.
- 19.3
The duty to remember where coats were placed survives until all coats have been recovered or definitively reclassified as someone else’s.
20.Remedies
The parties acknowledge that ordinary damages would be difficult to calculate and inappropriate for a celebration with centrepieces.
- 20.1
A minor breach may be cured by obtaining water for the table, offering a sincere compliment, or joining the next dance.
- 20.2
A spoiler may be remedied by immediate confusion, an implausible alternative explanation, and a confident change of subject.
- 20.3
No remedy shall include public shaming, forced dancing, or interference with dessert access.
21.Entire Agreement and Common Sense
This document constitutes the entire absurd agreement concerning its subject matter and supersedes every prior nod, wink, vague warning, and message marked ‘do not tell anyone.’
- 21.1
Amendments may be made orally by the couple, in writing by the MC, or silently by a venue coordinator who clearly knows what is happening.
- 21.2
If any provision is unenforceable, overly dramatic, or incompatible with having fun, it shall be severed and replaced with common sense.
- 21.3
By proceeding, the Receiving Party confirms that they understand the assignment: protect the surprise, enjoy the celebration, and look directly into the front-facing camera when instructed.
